Cystitis

If you have experienced cystitis before, you know the feeling of pressure on your bladder is uncomfortable and can even make urination painful. While this inflammation of the bladder is quite common, it’s easily treatable and there are some simple steps you can take to help prevent it.

Cystitis is usually caused by a bacterial infection, but it can have many causes, like damage or irritation to your bladder (non-infectious cystitis). Pain during urination and the need to urinate more frequently are two of the most common symptoms.

Cystitis symptoms

When suffering from cystitis you may experience the following symptoms:

    • Burning or stinging sensation when you urinate or pain when urinating
    • A frequent need to urinate

    Other symptoms include:

    • Strong smelling urine
    • Cloudy or dark urine
    • Blood in your urine (if you have blood in your urine you should see a doctor)
    • Fever, temperature and weakness

You should see your doctor if:

    • You develop urgent, frequent or painful urination that lasts for several hours or longer or if you notice blood in your urine,
    • Cystitis symptoms return after you've finished a course of antibiotics. You may need a different type of medication,
    • Seek immediate medical help if you have signs and symptoms common to a kidney infection, including:

             o    Back or side pain
             o    Fever and chills
             o    Nausea and vomiting

    Understanding cystitis

There can be many things that can increased that risk of getting cystitis, such as having sex, using a diaphragm for contraception,  wiping the wrong way after using the toilet (you should always wipe front to back).

Moreover, various types of irritations or damage to your bladder can cause similar symptoms which can present as non-bacterial cystitis.

    Cystitis treatment

Always see your doctor if your symptoms are severe or if it's your first time experiencing symptoms of cystitis.

Cystitis caused by bacterial infections is generally treated with antibiotics prescribed by a doctor. If you know you have a non-infectious or a more mild case of cystitis you may  find that your cystitis will clear up without any treatment.  In this case, you can treat the symptoms.

For cystitis relief, try a product, such as Cystopurin, that reduces urine acidity and helps you feel more comfortable while you recover from the infection.  Cystopurin is an easy to use 48-hour course.
